Social Worker
The Morris Police Social Worker
Provides support services to individuals and families involved in incidents that come to the attention of the police department and are identified as needing professional counseling, crisis intervention, or community referrals. These situations extend beyond the scope of traditional law enforcement duties and are referred to the department’s Police Social Workers.
The Morris Police Social Workers may respond to calls involving mental illness, provide crisis intervention and de-escalation services, connect individuals and families with county and community resources, and support victims of crime or families during fatal or traumatic incidents. They also assist officers in the field, facilitate trainings related to officer wellness, and may provide short-term counseling to help individuals stabilize and access appropriate ongoing services.
